The future of Brass Banding in the Vale

The Band's inception and development:

Inception:

Following the success of the Barry Bands Together project (2022), our Musical Director Dan worked with the parent Vale of Glamorgan Brass Band (VOGBB) to set up the Vale Associated Training Brass Band (VATBB). Established in 2022, the training band caters for absolute beginners and takes them up to intermediate level with the intention of establishing an intermediate level band in the future. Our prime objective is to encourage more people within the community to get involved with music regardless of their background, status, or experience.

During its relatively short existence, the VATBB has enjoyed several successes both on and off stage: breaking down the age old barriers to music making, seeing many members giving their debut musical performances, and performing in the prestigious Dora Stoutsker Hall of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in July 2023.

Development:

More recently the VATBB has supported its parent band in a number of exciting concerts including a guest appearance at a joint concert between the VOGBB and the Northern Ireland Concert band in June 2024, a celebration of VOGBB’s 50th Anniversary Concert in September 2024, and a joint concert with Dulais Valley Silver Band in June 2025. This concert featured musicians from 4 bands playing the theme from Jurassic Park – yes the sound was monstrous!

2025 also saw the band’s first “solo” performance as guests of Barry Ladies Choir which was a huge success.
