In Short:

The Band celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2024.  We are a non-contesting community Band with an emphasis on inclusivity and having fun. Our members come from all walks of life and ages range between 8 and 86 and across 3 generations.  We enjoy performing in the Vale, sometimes further afield with typically 15 – 20 “gigs” a year.  Dan Dennis [LINK to page] is our Musical Director.

Looking for a more relaxed, friendly but professional atmosphere? – give us a try. You won’t be disappointed.

No instrument? – no problem.  We have a range of quality instruments that we loan to our members.

A bit rusty? – no problem.  Come along for a chat, listen and some pointers on how to get playing again.

Would like to learn to play an instrument? – no problem. Check out our Training Band page – open to all ages and abilities.

Our Heritage:

The Vale of Glamorgan Brass Band was established in 1974 under the musical directorship of Islwyn Williams to lead the Barry Carnival. Over the last half a century, the band has entertained the masses audiences across South Wales and beyond.

Tom and Hilda Jones were instrumental in its formation and ongoing success with their son Adrian conducting the band for a period. Their Granddaughter currently plays euphonium baritone horn in the band and their Great-Granddaughters are currently in the Vale Associated Training Brass Band. Over the last 50 years, the band has been performing in the Vale and surrounding area, entertaining audiences across South Wales, Southwest England and even as far as France. The Bands’ membership come from all walks of life and ages range between 8 and 86.

In years gone by, the band took part in contests most notably winning the South-east Wales Brass Band Association Contest in May 1998 under the baton of Ivor Barnett. However, in 2017, after nearly 40 years on the contesting stage, the band made the decision to focus on making music on a non-competitive basis and to become a community band. The band is inclusive and welcomes players of all ages and abilities.
